Date Night - 6 months overdue

Before we had kids we told ourselves that we would still need to have a date night at least once a month. And if that situation were possible, we might try to do it. However, things change. Having a newborn, breastfeeding, all the things to think about, it was easier to just get takeout. And now that we are miles away from family, we find it hard to trust a stranger and awkward to ask our friends. But, I will tell you that Rachel is quite a talker these days that I can see how easy it is for parents to leave their kids now because kids will tell you anything!

So, a few weeks ago we had our shot for a date night. And it was long overdue. It was so hard for me to remember our last night out alone. The kid's school had another Parents Night Out. Drop the kids off from 6P-9P. We were so excited about it, but didn't really plan anything big. We ended up having a sushi date night (the most decent one they have here). But, immediately after we just picked up the kids. Why? Well, Ryan had been under the weather and had a horrible day at school with no nap so we were concerned that he would be a handful. Luckily, the turnout at this Parents Night Out was small and the lady watching him was actually his teacher (that he likes). We got her a cupcake that evening as a token of our appreciation of a tough week with Ryan. He was getting over a bad cough and congestion. The doctor we saw actually prescribed something that treated his cough, congestion and allergies all in one. This was new for us, but I think it helped!

Moral of the story - - date nights are great. But, at the end of the night "mom and dad" conquer "husband and wife". Having a combination of the two is FAMILY. And....that's all that matters!
